A note about liturgies for our 2025 retreat

There are four liturgy files: Tuesday, Wednesday, Ascension, and Friday. They are designed for double-sided printing. This makes it possible for music to appear on facing pages, as music would in a hymnal. We will provide print copies for participants when you arrive.

This Guide for Liturgical Leaders suggests some rubrics to orient those serving at the Eucharist and Daily Office. The rubrics are suggestions, not rules. We hope you will find the Guide helpful as you prepare for your leadership roles in our liturgies, and your feedback will be welcome! Leadership in our worship at this retreat include Celebrant, Reader, Homilist and Master of Ceremonies at the Eucharist; Officiants (and Cantor) at the daily Offices, and Music Director.

As in previous years, members of the Order will wear alb and scapular for the Eucharist and will process into the chapel. Novices will wear an alb until they are vested with a scapular during their Profession. There will be no procession at any of the daily Offices: the retreatants will simply gather in silence. Officiants will be vested in the Order's habit.

As in any Christian retreat, silence helps to frame the experience and deepen our prayer. But we also understand that the Order's retreats are an opportunity for members and novices to enjoy community and make new friends, especially at mealtime. We hope retreatants will avoid loud conversation while walking through corridors, especially near the chapels on the ground and second floors where retreatants may be praying in silence. The Jesuit Retreat Center's extensive wooded grounds provide an opportunity for silent meditation or quiet conversation.
